![]() ![]() Commissioners originally voted to financially support an improvement plan as far back as 2014. In September 2020, commissioners v oted to keep the township-supported library at its present location on Darby and Mill Roads and move forward with a $12 million renovation plan to that building after they rejected a proposal to move it to the now demolished Brookline School. Goldsmith said the building in its present state has an antiquated elevator, subpar wiring for state-of-the-art technology, broken toilets, inefficient use of space and inconsistent heat and air conditioning all contributing to high maintenance costs. ![]() The library at 1601 Darby Road has been attempting improvements for years and at times considered moving to a new location. “Our library is a dynamic community hub.” “Contrary to some reports, people still borrow and read books … but our library is much more than just books,” said Phil Goldsmith, president of the library in opening the presentation. HAVERFORD – Officials from the Haverford Township Free Library unveiled their nearly $20 million plans to renovate and modernize the library at the township commissioners meeting this week.
